Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could enable the party reach places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Seekers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
