Edmed is set to again steer the Australian national team from the playmaker role against England, while Gordon's eagerly awaited return to international rugby union is on hold.

The eight-Test fly-half, that formerly played for Australia at the most recent World Cup prior to shock switch to league to sign with the Gold Coast Titans, has now been released from his National Rugby League deal to link up with the Wallabies during their tour.

But, Gordon is believed to be still struggle with a quad strain sustained during practice last week and has been omitted from the team looking to achieve back-to-back victories against England at Twickenham for the first occasion in over a decade and a half.

Australia Face Selection Challenges

The Australian side is lacking depth, hampered by the restriction to choose important overseas-based players such as their English-based award winner Ikitau, Hooper, and James O'Connor, whereas the hosts boast full strength.

This has prompted concern that the Australian team's effort to climb the World Rugby rankings before the upcoming draw for the hosted 2027 World Cup has been unfairly impacted, since the English can field all their domestic league players.

Coach Joe Schmidt Stays Optimistic

But, Wallabies head coach Joe Schmidt, coming off overseeing a gritty win against Japan with a largely backup squad, remains confident he has a winning team available, with several key personnel returning to the lineup.

"The coaches have tried to manage this season's tough fixture list in terms of international games and travel commitments, so it was great to freshen a number of squad members up in the previous match and we hope that enables the group to be highly competitive on Saturday," said Schmidt.

Notable Returns and Combinations

Tighthead prop Tupou is back in the run-on team for the first occasion since the first Bledisloe Cup match in Auckland, while skipper Wilson wears the number eight jersey once more, making up a well-known strong loose forward trio with Valetini and Fraser McReight.

NSW Waratahs teammates Gordon and Tane Edmed are named in the halves for the third straight Test, and Hunter Paisami will link up in the centres with Suaalii, back to the venue of his remarkable union debut the previous season.

Max Jorgensen, the last-gasp match-winner that day with his decisive try, features again, and Harry Potter is called upon to contribute his bit of magic on the opposite wing position.

Lukhan Salakaia-Loto has recovered from a rib injury and will provide cover at lock, while Champion de Crespigny, the captain against Japan, is included as a back-row replacement.
