Ever since last year when it was formally declared that Amazon would be producing a online series adapted from BioWare's Mass Effect franchise, followers questioned if it was bold enough to tell an unique story and refrain from centering around Commander Shepard, the customizable protagonist from the original games. In a website announcement this week, they got their clarification.

BioWare executive producer Mike Gamble confirmed the show would "delve into a fresh story within the universe’s history, and will be set subsequent to the first trilogy." The post adds, "Expect no a rehash of Commander Shepard’s story – as after all … that’s YOUR story, right?"

Apparently, this implies the show could be about the peoples of the Milky Way restoring the galaxy in the aftermath of ruin wrought by the reapers. It could also be set hundreds of years in the years ahead, like Mass Effect: Andromeda. "After the original trilogy" allows much for the mind. No cast members have been revealed at this time, but Star Trek Beyond writer Doug Jung was chosen to serve as head writer and executive producer in June. Daniel Casey is furthermore a writer and producer on the show.

Regarding the forthcoming Mass Effect game, Gamble's post keeps quiet about a lot of details. In response to the rumors and rumors that BioWare could be sold off as a result of EA's massive sale to outside backers, including Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Gamble does stress "the forthcoming Mass Effect project is in production, and EA and BioWare are still devoted to sharing further tales in this universe."

BioWare is "heads-down and dedicated solely on Mass Effect," suggesting that the team has "a lot of universe to address, numerous features to create, and many love stories to figure out" for the upcoming game. "We look forward by what we’re building, and we promise you: once we’re ready, it’ll be a great time to display."

Several symbols are italicized across the post, and assembled they spell "URL Krogan N7." It's not immediately clear what this is indicating, although it's definitely hinting at something — the blog post ends with a playful P.S. stating, "Note: there is zero confidential title details to be discovered by anything I am stating today, I assure."

The Krogan species are shown in free artwork EA shared for enthusiasts to access in celebration of N7 Day. Named "Civil War," the picture displays multiple Krogan warriors in combat. Combined with the "N7 Krogan URL" message, it's likely another small breadcrumb on the path towards the forthcoming Mass Effect.

Nov. 7 marks N7 Day every year, a time for BioWare and Mass Effect fans to celebrate the sci-fi saga. Normally when BioWare has teased the upcoming latest title, for example in 2023 it displayed an N7 agent in a stylish coat.
