Rise, Sir David: Beckham Knighted by the Monarch at Royal Windsor Investiture
The football icon was bestowed with a knighthood at Windsor Castle on Tuesday. The ex-national team leader, 50, was among those receiving awards for his services to sport and philanthropy. In recent months, he expressed he was “immensely proud” of being recognised in the King’s birthday honours.
Soccer Achievements
The player made his Premier League debut for Manchester United in the mid-nineties and was a key member that secured a thrilling European Cup win in the late nineties when they beat the German giants with two late goals.
In total, he scored 85 goals and collected honours including multiple English championships and domestic cup wins as a soccer professional, before retiring from the sport in 2013. Alongside his football career, he has backed a number of charity causes, including acting as a charitable representative for humanitarian aid organisation Unicef since the mid-2000s.

Charitable and Other Roles
Last year, the sports star, who has described himself as a “huge royalist”, was named an ambassador for the King’s Foundation, an non-profit organization established by the monarch in the early nineties. In the late nineties he was named top fashion icon by GQ magazine and he has modelled for brands like the fashion retailer, Armani, and Boss.
Beckham married his wife Victoria in the turn of the millennium and the couple have a family of four kids together – their eldest, the second son, Cruz, and Harper.
