The Latest Information Regarding the Attack at the Ivy League Campus

Authorities are looking for a gunman who killed two students and hurt nine others at Brown University.

Police describe the individual as a man clad in black who escaped by running, and a lockdown advisory is in effect for the area surrounding the university.

This violent incident pushes the count of mass shootings in the US to 389 for this year, according to data from monitoring such tragedies.

Such incidents are generally categorized as having at least four victims shot or wounded, not counting the attacker.

The gunman opened fire in a lecture hall at about 16:00 local time on Saturday at the Holley engineering building at the east side of the university grounds.

Final exams were being held in the building at the moment of the attack.

The engineering building contains numerous research labs, dozens of classrooms and large halls.

An academic informed a local public media outlet that the attack had happened during a pre-exam class for her course.

"He said that the shooter walked through the doorway, yelled something - he couldn't remember what - and began firing," the professor said.
